Size Limits

I have recently been playing with render sizes ... that cube (like Dirk's Cubik Olympic) gets as large as 12,000 x 12,000 pixels and that is about it. I had this other fractal I decided to render it larger, but it was done with no lighting (aka shadows) at 12,000 x 16,000 and played with a few lighting presents before shutting down for the night. I did have to unload a couple of programs before it allowed that size . Is this part of the new windows management system you mentioned? Just curious.

No, the windows management is about the way child windows behave, and has no effect on memory. Unfortunately it's still not perfect, as I occasionally see the metamorph style list on top of another program in Windows XP.
